OUR NEW WHIP!!!
rowed at last year’s world championships, this is now our boat to row. filippi’s new carbon wing rigger is one of the latest and greatest things. so hot right now. it’s different in that the pins are fixed to the rigger and not mounted in a sliding groove. this is possible since you adjust the spread in the middle because the wing is actually two telescoping halves. additionally, the new edition is that the pins sit in a ball & socket joint, a bittersweet innovation as we discovered during our 3 hours of rigging today. the ball & socket allows you to adjust the angle of the pin, or pitch, in any way you can imagine. typically, you want your pin to have 0 degrees of pitch in relation of the bow to the stern, but then you want 1 degree of outward pitch. if you really want to know why, let me know! however, i’ll spare the rest of you. the point is, although you have the amazing ability to rig any way you want, it’s tricky to stick that ball & socket joint in place as you measure it with an electronic pitch meter.
we got it pretty dialed in though. just a few more finishing touches to do, but she’s a b——yoot (aka beauty).
