so….. i’m still on the mend. sorry for not posting regularly, but much of my energy is going towards recovering. i lifted last night and felt terrible at times during the lift, but then felt pretty solid afterwards. rowed this morning, but the workout was tweaked so as not to push it as hard since for the second night i saw an average heart rate in the high fifties and peaks around 100bpm. on that note, my college coach, stew stokes, showed me an awesome possible app and adapter to get for your smartphone called ithlete (http://ithlete.net/). instead of simply tracking your resting heart rate, it actually tracks the variable times between heart rates. this is actually supposed to be even more accurate than just watching your resting heart rate.
the downside is definitely being sick. for your entertainment, let me tell you everything i have done towards what willy calls “operation steve get better”:
- drink emergen-c
- drink fresh squeezed oj
- eat tons of raw honey
- drink tons of hot tea w/honey
- rub oregano oil on feet
- rub eucalyptus oil on chest
- make the onion soup that i linked the other day (simply water, onion, oregano, & garlic)
- breath in steam over a boiling pot (dad’s favorite)
- leave an onion cut in half in my room
- put an onion on my foot
- take mucinex
- take echinacea
are you not entertained? the list could go on, but that should suffice.
on the upside, the rows that we have done have been pretty technically sound and made some good changes. so despite not feeling that great while in the boat and internally, there have been some worthwhile happenings as a crew for sure.
oh, and lastly, yes, that map shows california as being the one state with “widespread” flu outbreaks, which means more than 50%. good times.
